What We Do
We help you in Balancing Safety and Risk. Risks are all around us. How these risks are managed is what defines a successful organisation.
In today’s regulatory environments, designing a safe system is not enough. It is necessary to be able to show that safety has been considered and designed in from the outset, and that suitable measures to mitigate any identified risks have been applied.
The challenge for today’s business is to strike a balance between designing and making competitive systems, and taking into consideration the need to fulfil these regulatory requirements.
We offer a portfolio of professional safety management services that can be tailored to meet your specific project needs. Whether it is advice on aspects of your Safety Management System, or a complete system safety case activity involving the regulator, we provide a focused service concentrating on helping you deliver the evidence required to show your system is adequately safe.
Safety Management
An effective Safety Management System is essential for any organisation that is involved in the production or operation of safety related systems. It is also necessary to have an effective safety culture throughout the organisation. A Safety Management Plan will document the first, and help instill the second.
Safety Case Authorship
Having produced all of your safety evidence, it is necessary to be able to present this in a structured manner that a third party (for example a regulator) could reasonably understand. Different industry sectors have their own requirements for the format of the safety case, but each require that the safety case presents an argument, showing how the evidence leads to your claim of a safe system. Early planning of this activity can save you time and money by targeting your evidence generation to that required to show your argument.
Safety Case Assessment
Many standards call for the Safety Case to be independently assessed to verify that it is complete in it coverage of the system, correct in its presentation of the argument, and consistent in its use of the available evidence to support the goals. Independent evaluation is an important stage in the lifecycle of the Safety Case, as it verifies that it correctly supports your system.
Independent Safety Audit
An Independent Safety Audit gives you confidence that the investment made in the Safety Management is paying off. It is an audit by a trained safety practitioner (often a Chartered Engineer) to check that you are actually doing day-to-day, what you planned to do. Having regular audits helps ensure that safety stays central to your activities, and reduces the chances of nasty surprises at the end of the project.
